SMS Privacy Notice
Last updated: May 11, 2026
This SMS Privacy Notice describes how Canadian Heart Association ("CHA," "we," or "us") collects, uses, and protects information related to text-message (SMS) communications. It supplements our general privacy policy and applies whenever you provide your mobile number to CHA in connection with our education programs and services.
What information we collect
When you opt in to SMS communications from CHA, we collect:
- Your first and last name
- Your email address
- Your mobile phone number
- The exact text of the consent disclosure shown to you at the time of submission
- The IP address and browser user-agent associated with your submission
- The page or form that collected your consent
- The date and time of your submission
How we use your mobile number
CHA uses your mobile number solely to send the categories of messages you have consented to receive. These may include:
- Course registration confirmations
- Payment receipts
- Course schedule reminders (typically 24 hours before a class)
- Certificate-issuance notifications
- Occasional service announcements (for example, instructor changes affecting a course you registered for)
Message frequency varies, typically 1 to 4 messages per course you take. Standard message and data rates from your wireless carrier may apply.
Opt-out and help
You can opt out of CHA SMS messages at any time by replying STOP to any message you receive from us. After replying STOP, you will receive one final confirmation message and will not receive further texts from CHA.
Reply HELP to any CHA message for support information. You may also email support@canadianheart.com or call 1-888-229-8977.
How we protect and share your data
CHA does not sell, rent, or share your mobile number, your SMS opt-in status, or the content of SMS messages with third parties for their marketing or promotional purposes. Mobile-number information is shared only with the SMS service providers we use to deliver messages on our behalf (currently Twilio Inc., which acts as a data processor under our instructions).
We retain your consent records and SMS message history for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period thereafter to satisfy legal, accounting, or compliance obligations.
Carrier liability
Wireless carriers (including, in Canada, Rogers, Bell, Telus, Freedom Mobile, and others) are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
Eligibility
CHA SMS communications are intended for residents of Canada and the United States who are at least the age of majority in their province or state of residence. By opting in, you confirm that you are the subscriber or authorized user of the mobile phone number you provide.
Changes to this notice
We may update this SMS Privacy Notice from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent changes. Material changes will be communicated through SMS or email where appropriate.
