Basic Life Support (BLS)

The Canadian Heart Association’s Basic Life Support education program provides you with the knowledge needed to participate in a resuscitation event effectively.

The Canadian Heart Association's BLS Education Programs will provide you with the theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills needed to respond to medical emergencies to help you obtain the best possible outcome for your patient.

The BLS Education Programs program emphasizes the importance of

  1. Recognizing a patient in a cardiac-arrest or in a pre-cardiac-arrest state,
  2. Early and continuous, high-quality CPR.
  3. Managing a Cardiac Arrest when alone, with a small team, and large teams with an empasis on high-performance.

The course reflects science and education from the 2020 International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) Guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).

Who Should Attend A BLS Classroom-Based Program?

The Canadian Heart Association’s BLS Education programs are designed for healthcare professionals who may have to initiate or manage resuscitation events. This can include but is not limited to personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care, and critical care units such as physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, dentists, paramedics, and others who need an BLS course completion card.

How Will I Be Evaluated? 

During the Canadian Heart Association’s BLS program, you will be given access to an integrated online evaluation system. It is through the use of this system that you will be evaluated. Evaluation happens in real-time within the program. You can access the system using your smartphone. Using this interactive evaluation system, we can guarantee that you will successfully complete the program and earn your BLS Certificate.

 The Canadian Heart Association doesn’t use the MEGA-CODE Evaluation system.


What Certificates Will I Earn At The End Of The Program?
 
  • The Canadian Heart Association BLS Provider Certificate, valid for one year.

How Long Is The Canadian Heart Association’s ACLS Provider Program?
 
  • The BLS Provider Program is 90 minutes long.

Are There Any Course Prerequisites?
 
  • There are zero prerequisites for this program. No pretest is required.
